Getting the Best Free Weights

Getting the Best Free Weights

If you are one of the people who want to start their 2018 right with a new fitness journey, then it’s time to get pumped up with the exercise regimens and healthy prep meals. Working out means arming yourself with the right equipment; whether you want to do cardio or face strength training head-on, there is a machine for every exercise.

But if you want to build or strengthen your muscles, then a free weight is your best bet. The most common weight equipments are barbells and dumbbells, as well as kettlebells. You may have heard that exercise, in general, improves our body and overall health, but each type of exercise has its own benefits.

So what are the advantages of weightlifting?

  • Using free weights build muscles and develop strength
  • Unlike cardio that controls your whole movement, strength training is focused on controlling the motion more; hence it engages the core muscle groups.
  • Weight lifting also happens to increase a person’s metabolism
  • Enhances one’s balance

On the other hand, weight lifting is not an ideal exercise if you’re seeking to lose weight. Opt for cardio workouts such as running on a treadmill. The best option is to combine both cardio and strength training–since the latter gives you muscle mass, which in turn will help you burn more calories if you do the former.

What Weights Should I Buy First?

It all depends on your goal and needs. If you’re a beginner, the first thing you should do first is built your strength and add extra muscles. Dumbells are perfect to do just that. They come in different sizes or you can purchase an adjustable dumbbell kit to allow you to increase or decrease the resistance by removing or adding the plates. Chose weights with foam handles for easier grip.

Dumbbells work well with beginners since this will give them the ability to perform the exercise correctly. Start small and work your way on heavier and bigger weight such as barbells.

Invest and Use

A lot of people make a mistake in buying weights then not using it after one or two sessions. You don’t need to spend thousands of dollars on a fitness equipment that you will hardly use in the future. If you haven’t done strength training before, buy dumbells first. Make sure to do your research as well and don’t immediately jump on the first weight set that catches your eye.

Remember that lifting weights can be dangerous, so don’t push yourself doing it unless you have already build muscle or get the hang of your first set of beginner exercises. Again, start small and slowly work your way up, and feel your body as well if you can handle such heavy weight sets.
