How to Stay In Shape Without Going to the Gym?

How to Stay In Shape Without Going to the Gym?

A busy work schedule may prevent you from going to the gym. But that shouldn’t give you an excuse to stop staying in shape.

There are many ways to keep your body fit and active without going to the gym.

Let’s face it, gym memberships are usually costly. With personal trainers assisting you at every step, you can expect to dish out a few hundred bucks every year for your gym membership.

Instead, you can try the following activities to stay in shape without hitting the gym.

1. Take the Stairs

Try taking the stairs instead of using the elevator to reach your office every day.

Sure, it is challenging to take the stairs and reach the 10th floor. But unless you challenge your body, you will not get into shape.

You should also walk up and down the stairs in your house as a part of your daily exercise.

Do you know that using the stairs burns more calories than jogging? That should encourage you to climb the stairs more often.

2. Set up a Home Gym

Expensive gym membership and transportation costs to visit the gym can add up to a significant amount every month.
If you don’t want to invest so much, try setting up a home gym in your basement.
You can initially purchase a few dumbbells and a stability ball before moving to the heavier gym machines.

Moreover, if you can’t go to the gym because of your busy work schedule, you can always come back home to exercise.

Investing in your home gym machines will not only keep you in shape but also free you from paying the costly gym membership fee.

3. Go Swimming

If you have a swimming pool in your house, make the most of it.

Swimming is an excellent cardio exercise that can keep your entire body fit and also improve your heart and breathing rate.

Try swimming for at least 30 minutes every day. During winters, you can substitute swimming by using a jump rope.

Both these activities involve movements of almost all your body parts. This will keep you physically active and in shape without going to the gym.

4. Perform Moderate-Intensity Exercises

Many home-based exercises can keep you in shape, and they don’t involve picking up weights or using any gym machines.

Start your day with these exercises to stay active and energetic.

Jumping Jacks

This is the best warm-up exercise for your body.
Start by keeping your shoulders apart and spread your legs.

Jump in this position. While jumping, make sure you touch your hands over your head. Increase your speed as you pick up the rhythm of this exercise.

Continue jumping for at least two minutes before taking a 30-second break. Repeat this for 5 sets.

Cobra Pose

This exercise will strengthen your back and abdominal muscles. Lie face down on the ground.

Place your hands side by side beneath your shoulders. Now lift your chest by straightening your arm.

Your arms, chest, and head should be parallel to each other. Keep breathing while you hold your position. Hold this pose for at least 20 seconds. Repeat the same pose 10 times for 3 sets.

Wall Sit

This may seem to be one of the easiest exercises, but it takes a lot of effort to perform it correctly. Lean on a wall with your hands straight.

Now try to pose as if you are sitting on an imaginary chair.

Keep your legs at 90-degrees to your thighs. Your back should be upright, touching the wall. Stand still in this position for approximately three minutes.

Take deep breaths and exhale slowly.

You will feel the burn after a couple of minutes. Try increasing the time once you get used to this exercise. Repeat it thrice every day to increase your leg muscles and strengthen your core.

Combining free hand exercises with weight training will keep you in shape without going to the gym.

Weight training requires gym machines that you can install in your home.
